What's Happening?

The Roaring Twenties

South Campus hosted a night to remember filled with appletinis, and peachtinis.  It was a party themed in the 20s! Residents enjoyed dressing up in their best 1920s attire including finger weaved hair and flapper dresses. The guys also looked great in their suits and fedoras.  They mingled and danced in a fun environment.  They also learned about alcohol and drugs. It was a great way to learn as well as having an awesome time dancing and drinking appletinis.

The BARN Tour

The Vector floor ventured into the exciting world of the BARN, in the Merrill-Caizer Library.  They were privileged to go on a special tour of the BARN, (the Borrower’s Automated Retrieval Network) and learn about how the automated storage and retrieval system works.  The Vector Floor was able to go inside and even down inside where only few employees are allowed to go. The guides did an excellent job in answering all of the questions the students had.  The Vector floor goes on the tour annually, so look forward to this exciting opportunity next year!

The Painting Program

Cyri Dixon and her residents painted canvases to decorate their lounge, “It was fun to decorate the lounge and be able to make our floor feel more like home.” Said a few of her residents. It was a great way to get out and meet people and just have a good time.

Healthy Relationships Speed Dating

It was a night of romance, perfect for the month of February.  The night was started off with a presentation by a counselor from the Utah State counseling center.  He spoke on healthy relationships.  He talked about how to manage yourself in a relationship.  Afterword’s all of the residents had a chance to speed date each other.  We were given 3 minutes each to chat with all sorts of people.  It was a really fun way to get to know people in your community in a fun and different way.  At the end of the night, everybody was treated to ice cream sundaes provided by central campus area government.

Valentines Day Dinner Party

Katie Reeves a RA in south campus and her residents planned and executed a formal dinner party for Valentine's Day. They made appetizers, soup, salad, steak, lobster, side dishes, and Crème Brule for dessert! To top it all off they decorated the apartment with all sorts of Valentines decorations. After they ate they all got in pajamas and watched a scary movie.

Afterwards Katie said, “We all had so much fun with this program. Residents told me that it was one of the most fun things they have done in college. I feel the same way, it was nice to do something fancy.”

 Bridging the Semester

Residents worked in pairs to build a bridge out of only raw spaghetti noodles and dried marshmallows.  The residents had length and width requirements to meet, and then the bridges were tested with various engineering magazines and textbooks as the weight.
