Theme housing is an exciting program at Utah State that is dedicated to learning outside of the classroom. The underlying mission of theme housing is to link residence halls with academic or general interest themes and create communities of residents with shared interests and goals. Each theme community is hosted by a Peer Mentor who provides academic support while planning fun social programs.
FIGs: Freshman Interest Groups
The ultimate freshman experience! Make the transition to university life with all the benefits of a small college atmosphere. Each theme-oriented FIG includes 16-18 students who live on concurrent floors in the Towers.
Academic Lifestyles
Our Academic Lifestyles are a great way to meet faculty, get involved in undergraduate research, and meet other students who share your classes. These communities are sponsored by academic departments and colleges.
Community Lifestyles
Our Community Lifestyles provide immediate campus involvement and are focused on scholarship, diversity, service, and leadership. These communities are sponsored by student clubs and organizations.
How Do I Apply?
- Fill out the standard housing application and select a theme floor as your first building preference. Check the box that asks if you are interested in FIGs/Lifestyles.
- All theme housing residents must sign a pledge form and agree to participate in a minimum number of peer-mentor planned activities each semester. The Lifestyles are open to students of any age while our FIGs are limited to incoming freshmen. Our Academic Lifestyles are limited to those students in the related major until July 1, 2008 after which we will accept non-majors to the floors on a case-by-case basis.
There is a small activity fee for each theme: $25 for Lifestyles ($50 for Honors House and Leadership House) and $50 for FIGs ($75 for Outdoor Adventures). The activity fee will be added to your rent and is refundable until July 1, 2008. The fee will be used to supplement meals, field trips, guest speakers, and floor t-shirts.
